High Seas Innovation With 3D Printing

Introduction

IEE Ltd, a trusted engineering services provider based in Whakatane, New Zealand, collaborated with Extreme Boats to develop custom interior components for their aluminum vessels. Extreme Boats, known for crafting high-quality boats for over two decades, sought IEE’s expertise in 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD modeling, and 3D printing. The challenge lay in verifying the need for a 3D printed solution that met specific criteria such as resistance to sunlight and UV radiation while remaining cost-effective and flexible in design. Thorough material testing, production cost assessment, and design optimization were key, along with close collaboration to reflect Extreme’s brand identity. 3D printing with Loctite 3D IND406 emerged as the most viable solution, enabling minor part revisions and detail improvements while supporting local manufacturing efforts and working off existing stock.
